Congratulations to Joe Goranson, President of Goranson Construction, for receiving the Marcon Core Value Award. This award was presented to Joe and his company for Passion.
We worked with Joe, the incoming successor of a family business, to help scale the company as Joe pivoted from city parks landscaping into commercial development. The same skills and equipment are now deployed toward a vision and niche market that aligns with Joe’s interests.
Generational leadership transitions in family businesses are complex and can have unintended consequences on family relations. Lawyers and accountants can help with transfer of assets and tax implications, but in a family business, relationships are key. Professional facilitation enabled Joe to discover more angles and perspectives, resulting in flexible and adaptable communications between him and his father. Most importantly, Joe made strategic decisions with better information and understanding of both the business situation and the family, and successfully completed the transition. Both the business and the Goranson family are thriving.
This is a well-deserved accomplishment, as Joe continues to grow his company and prioritise the systems, processes and inner work that has allowed him to train and develop his team to “think like owners”.
